Step-by-Step Process

Step 1: Check Your Eligibility

Minimum Requirement:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Agricultural Science, Agronomy, Soil Science, Crop Science, Environmental Science, or closely related field
  • This occupation requires a qualification which is assessed as comparable to the educational level an Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) Bachelor degree or higher*, in a field highly relevant to the nominated occupation

If your degree is not closely related, you must have:

  • At least 3 years of highly relevant work experience in the last 5 years

Step 2: Collect Your Documents

  • Employment reference letters detailing duties
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Payslips and/or tax records
  • Passport bio page
Step 3: Apply Online via VETASSESS
  • Create an account on VETASSESS portal

  • Pay the assessment fee Fees (as of July 2025):
  • Full Skills Assessment (Professional Occupations): AUD $1,070

Step 4: Outcome
  • Processing time: Approx. 12–14 weeks

What If I Have an Unrelated Degree?

If you studied BSc in Botany, Chemistry, Environmental Science, or even something unrelated like Business, you may still be eligible IF

  • You have a closely related postgraduate degree, or
  • You have at least 3 years of highly relevant experience as an agricultural consultant (e.g., working in rural development, agri-extension services, soil management)

Please note that: Degrees in some science areas, such as Horticulture, Biotechnology, Veterinary Science, Biochemistry, Life Sciences, Botany, Zoology, Soil Science, and Environmental Science, may be considered, depending on the course content. These qualifications must include enough subjects in areas like agricultural systems, agronomy, animal science, chemistry, grazing systems, and plant cultivation, along with core topics in the applicant’s area of specialisation. Research projects or internships are also key factors that will be reviewed during assessment.
